![]() But one of the most important things that usually gets overlooked in the daily process of keeping our mouth healthy is the roof. In fact, it is probably the most neglected part of our oral care. Why Is the Roof of My Mouth so Important? While all the focus is usually on the pearly whites when brushing, the hotbeds for germs and bacteria are actually the gums, tongue, and roof of the mouth. Properly brushing the teeth includes spending a little time at the gum line, and since most people are also aware of the necessity of paying attention to the tongue, that leaves the roof of the mouth as the forgotten party. Failing to dedicate a few brush strokes to this region will result in the continued cultivating and spreading of bacteria.Don't Forget the Inside of the Jaws as WellAlong the same line of thought, the inner portion of the jaws under the gum line need cleaning as well. While it's always a good practice to get a few good swishes around this region with your mouthwash, as with every other part of your mouth, it doesn't replace the need to brush. Neglecting the inside of the jaw results in the same thing as ignoring the roof of your mouth; the spread of germs. To make sure that you have been caring for your mouth and brushing properly, contact our office to speak with one of our dental professionals about any questions or concerns that you may have.
